HARVEST FAIR & THE HANGER PROJECT!

The Hanger Project goes into full operation this coming Sunday at the Mavuno Church’s annual Harvest Fair. The Harvest Fair is a 2 day exhibition kind of setting that pulls together different businesses needing to interact with and attract the 2,000 plus Mavuno Church membership. This year they have even introduced a Car Boot sale for those willing to undertake.

It is organized, on behalf of Mavuno Church, by Empire International, an young but very versatile business support unit. The Harvest Fair is further strengthened by a strong and able solid pillar known as The Agenda. The Agenda is a business think-tank unit that brings together different expertise and creative minds in encouraging businesses to have a Kingdom focus, through interactions, networking and general support. The Agenda is the brains behind the Business Breakfast which happens every month at the Sarova Panafric Hotel, from 6:00am - 9:00am. The Breakfast shares ideas and insight while encouraging responsible and ethical business dealings and operations among participants.

The launch at the Harvest Fair will be crucial for The Hanger Project, because we will have on site visibility with at least 2,000 members of Mavuno Church whom we will ask to further spread the word. Above all, we start our official collection of the clothes and donations then.

DNG GOT HANGED!

Davidson Ngibuini, also known by the stage name DNG is a totally awesome chap. So yesterday we met in church and had a casual chat. Then after telling him all about The Hanger Project, he goes like, "si we can hype it up on my show, on live, national radio."

So after I send him all the details, I get this call and he asks, "What more can we do?" We meet tomorrow to iron things out. The other thing is, I got Poetry Spot, a Rock Concert and a massive entertainment crew to perform for the purposes of this.

Mpaka am like, EISH!!!!

Am really grateful.

Thank you Jesus!

113 CHAMPIONS FOR THE HANGER PROJECT

I would like to thank everyone for the support so far.

The target for this week was 10,001 donations towards the project. We cannot quantify that but we have 113 heroes who have committed to donate to the cause and so we are grateful. We shall tally what is there then communicate the same. The support is overwhelming. Thank you all who have contacted us to come collect clothes and shoes etc. http://www.facebook.com/agatamah, http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100000076582073, http://www.facebook.com/sifa.dena, and http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1372633070 to mention just a few.

Thanks for your help again.

As I write, the Sprint Interactive team is busy trying to ensure we have the site up today. We are gearing towards the official launch of The Hanger Project at Mavuno’s Harvest Fair on Sunday, October 31, 2010. It will be exciting. Purple Tulips will be doing our décor, and we are already receiving those volunteering to help man the tent next Saturday and Sunday. Again, we will be receiving the clothes then and you can come meet the team and get a T-Shirt at our tent. We are so excited and ready to go. The next 45 days are going to be among the best in our day and age. So welcome on board!
We have a few designs up for print and here they are you can check them out.

I am going to Nyayo Stadium for the Classic Derby between Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards, and that is going to be a show.

Remember the website is www.thehangerproject.or.ke

Thank you and have a blessed weekend.

CALLING VOLUNTEERS:

There are one million requests concerning how we all call volunteer. So from today and this week, we will be telling you how to come in as a volunteer. But a request first, please ask people to donate stuff. We really need a reason to have volunteers.
So here goes, we need you to volunteer:
1.      Your Facebook Status: Can we please borrow your face book statuses for 15 minutes every day. Mostly at 10, between 12:00 – 2:00 pm. And then in the evening.
2.      Can you tell your friends in your churches and offices about the project? We need as much word out as possible.
3.      Then, can we get you to help us at the Harvest Fair in Mavuno Church on the 30th and 31st of October, 2010, and at your local church.
4.      We will be doing some rounds with pickups from November 1, would you be willing.
And then there are many others that you can tell us how you can help us in.
Shiru Njagi went all out to tell her friends in her bible study about this, and we really are grateful. Thanks Shiru!
Otherwise?

JUDY, 1001 CLOTHES AND TARGET 10,001.

The new week begins with lots and lots of promise. Believe it or not, we have hundreds upon hundreds of clothes waiting for collection. This is mostly from friends and well-wishers whom we have talked to. Had an excellent time talking to people about it here and the response is overwhelming. My take, people are willing and ready to help, provided there is a system and structure for it.
One of the most amazing stories is a lady called Judy. She lives in Madiwa, Eastleigh Section 3, and she has had clothes for over 1 year to give away. She just didn’t know how, and when she heard, there was a PHEW of relief. But the amazing thing is that she promised to talk to her colleagues who work with her in the same ministry of the government.
So this is the plan for this week:
1.       Monday: Keep the stories going, push as hard to go live online and whole buy in the concept and idea, and work out a volunteers plan.
2.       Tuesday: meet with a few guys in the centre and core. Particularly to work on volunteerism and how to do it. Get ideas and plan.
3.       Wednesday is Kenyatta Day, and all I will do is just chill and relax, after we were played with Moi day. Maybe sleep in a bit. Then meet the Rudolf’s Crew. They know themselves.
4.       Thursday: Get reviews from the usual suspects, and all the help we can get. Also find out what ends need to be tied, and then meet for the Harvest Fare.
5.       Friday: Will visit a Go Down to see if we can get it for storage and cleaning.
Above all, we hope to send 500 short messages and 500 concept proposals to churches, individuals and companies, and talk to over 100 people about it. We are very optimistic we shall get over 10,000 in donated items pledged or given already by 5:00pm Friday evening. Let's make it happen.
So please send us a volunteer, spread the word or send us some clothes, shoes, blankets or whatever you can give. Cool?
Have a blessed week. Talk to you in the evening.
Pau.

HOPE, SHIRU AND A FULL WEEKEND AHEAD!

Today is an awesome day. Again the responses coming through have been amazing. The offers to help and volunteering are overwhelming. I am still very thankful.
So where are we? We are good to go, I must say. The website is completely done. Just coding and loading. Can’t wait to see it. Some organizations are already showing interest and we just need to tie in things a little bit.
This weekend we shall be finishing up with plans for the Harvest Fair where we have a tent and will begin official publicity. I actually hope to get someone special to official launch the project. We shall be buying and designing hangers and start the publicity from this coming Monday but push entirely till Sunday. There shall be lots of mail, and printing to be done.
I don’t know how much of what I will be able to do this weekend, but I have BSF in the morning, Shiro and Larry are getting married, and baby Hope is having a birthday bash. I am sure there will be millions of friends to tell. So I will be on the talk talk talk tariff!
Have a blessed week guys.
See you!

SUSAN, A SACK FULL OF CLOTHES AND 25 BOB

I am amazed at how much support we have received and how much we are foreseeing. People really do want to help. The full unit meets on Tuesday next week then we run. A short story….
To get to work from Umoja, usually I have to walk to Donholm stage from about 6:30am in order to be in a mini bus to City Stadium stage and then connet with one to Mombasa rd. In a good 35-45 minutes am in the office. Amazingly, today I was able to notice different things about what people are wearing. Will pick a conversation with one of those guys kesho.
Today seems to have been very slow, but that’s ok. So we are officially on Facebook as THE HANGER PROJECT KENYA. Which is really cool. So we hope to get as much support on that platform.
I had an awesome meeting with our web designer and graphic artist, Susan, and she has just done a serious website job that goes live sometime tomorrow during the day. I have also finished copywriting for the advertising we will have and Susan shall be giving us a preview the same time the site goes up.
The graphics we have are out of this world, and they will be up for display within a week or 2. All our efforts are geared towards the Harvest Fair where we will officially launch the project. We will create an event for our launch at the Harvest Fair, and you can join us. But before then, the ground work still continues.
As we speak, I have a sack full of clothes, and massive support still coming in. I also have KES. 25 cash from a colleague. This is a sign of good things to come. Again, thanks for the support.

SUPPORT COMES IN ALREADY

Funny thing, as soon as we went online and on facebook, we had a lot of interest. My boys Victor Ndalo and Sifa Dena were the first to jump in, followed by the TBM Crew.

Also, just selling the idea and letting people know what we are u to worked really well. Janet, a pal decided to be a noisemaker for it. Her help is really important as she is an excellent and thorough communicator. Especially on facebook! We are still waiting for confirmations from other bloggers and writers we have talked to. It will be so cool when they come in. Can't wait to see.
Good news still, we will be live online with our own website before the week ends. Our official corporate identity will also be out this week, and you will finally be able to put a face to us.
And then, we already have names and people who will help in different capacities. From volunteers to people giving 25bobs etc. We also have a working team that will review the entire process, and put the structures into place for this. I like calling them the Usual Suspects!
One more thing, if you know someone or you have a children’s home or institutions that may need these clothes, please let us know in good time. Send us the details of the people, how many they are and what they need. We will review and then send them on a first come first serve basis, and the urgency of the need.
Also watch out for us in the press and spread the word. We will be on a radio station next to you very soon!
Thanks for the support once again.

THE PROJECT KICKS OFF

After a successful, and faith strengthening MAKARO Tournament in Umoja estate, I now embark on a more challenging but really exciting new project, The Hanger Project.

The genesis of this project was really funny. A client had come to an agency a few years ago to get some creative ideas to market her clothes line. At the moment it really didnt look like much, and she turned it down anyway. Nonetheless, the idea was really good and I held on. How and when, I didnt know. Now it is.

The Hanger Project seeks to collect over 1 million pieces of worn fabric and shoes to distribute to the needy and less fortunate in the society. The project also seeks to get volunteers for the project.

The project will further support semi-skilled men and women living in the informal settlements.

If I say I know how it will turn out, I will be lying, but this is just one project am willing and ready to run with.

Welcome on board. Join us by support, and spreading the word.

Let's see how it goes.

Pau Shinski.
