JANE WATHOME STILL A BEACON OF HOPE

I met Jane Wathome, a couple of weeks after I had met her husband and son, Kevin, I think, in totally unrelated circumstances.

On the Saturday of March 19, 2005, me and a couple of other people were all seated listening to Mr. Ken Wathome, at a talk that only costed only KES 400.00 but still has some great impact in me. Mr. Wathome was speaking on the title ‘MENTORING: A panacea for personal and business success!’ He explained the importance of mentoring to a crowd that included Ps. David Githugu then at Nairobi Chapel Mamlaka, Sumeet Walia of Ultra Kenya, Charles Mulinge of Farm Chem Africa and Christine Mwai of Barclays Bank. Great people still.

A little over two weeks later, I was looking for the person who ran the Beacon of Hope Centre to interview for Radio. After preliminary phone conversations and bouncing meetings, we finally sat at the food court on the first floor of Prestige Plaza, just outside her charity shop  for a 10 minute meeting but ended up being in a meeting for over 3 hours. I kept asking questions and she kept challenging me.

Mrs. Wathome is a hero in her own right, setting up Beacon of Hope while still at the Nairobi Chapel. The institution has had a massive impact and has offered support to hundreds of women from sub poor communities, particularly to prevent and manage the HIV/Aids pandemic in those poor communities. From a humble desire of to help the needy in the community, the impact Beacon of Hope has had over the years is quite amazing.

Earlier this morning, Mrs. Jane Wathome took time to listen to the vision of The Hanger Project, and all she asked was what she can do to help! We all should have seen Susan’s reaction.

Apart from providing the much needed leadership from her experience and exposure, she will further assist us with logistics of getting the project running, particularly, The Free Boutique. We thank God for her.

Please visit her site and say hi or something. Show some love and support The Beacon of Hope by purchasing a handmade product from the shop at the Prestige Plaza shop.

Thank you everyone,

Pau
